Will CSK qualify for the 2022 playoffs: Chennai Super Kings found themselves on the losing side for the fifth time this season.

Reigning champions Chennai Super Kings suffered their fifth loss in the 2022 Indian Premier League; becoming only the second team to do so this season.

While a fifth defeat in a sixth match should hurt the second-best team in the history of the world’s biggest T20 league, CSK would be hurt all the more after losing a game they should have won .

Not that Chennai posted a winning streak after being batted first by Gujarat Titans at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium tonight, but played extremely well to cut the opposition to 48/4 in eight overs while still defending a goal of 170 points.

The Super Kings, who have struggled with their bowling deaths this season, have once again proven themselves lacking in that department as GT batsman David Miller and alternate captain Rashid Khan managed to score 48 runs over the three final overs to make the Super Kings look like. absolutely ignorant.

Will CSK qualify for the 2022 playoffs?

Currently in ninth position in the points table, CSK is only ahead of the Indians of Mumbai (six defeats in as many matches). With their chances of making the playoffs near impossible, only a miraculous second half of the IPL 2022 League Stage can see them end up in the top four teams.

Overall, a team needs a minimum of eight wins to qualify for the playoffs in an IPL season. Historically, teams have also qualified with seven wins, but that only happens with a higher NRR (Net Run Rate).

The only way for Chennai to qualify for the IPL 2022 qualifiers is to win seven of their eight remaining league matches this season. Assuming they win six games, Net Run Rate will come into play. At -0.638, Chennai is one of three teams to have a negative NRR this season.

Given their form and the formation of the squad, it doesn’t look like the Super Kings will make it to the IPL 2022 qualifiers until they stage a remarkable return to the tournament. Readers should note that Ravindra Jadeja and his men will next face Mumbai at Navi Mumbai on Thursday.
