Being physically active is one of the best things you can do to improve and maintain your health, but nearly two-thirds of Americans aren’t getting the activity they need. Consider walking with friends or family by participating in Walk Across Tennessee, an eight-week program that will spark friendly competition in DeKalb County. The event is hosted by the UT/TSU DeKalb County Extension Office.
Beginning Monday, April 18, teams of eight will compete to see who can complete the most miles by walking, jogging, biking and other forms of exercise in their community. The goal is for your team to log a total of 500 miles (the length of Tennessee) during the 8-week competition. Here are the steps: Find a total of 8 people to be part of a team; Choose a team captain. The team captain must upload the registration information online at https://dekalb.tennessee.edu/walk-across-tennessee/ or you can pick up the packets at the UT/TSU Extension Office located in the building of the DeKalb County complex. Enter through the middle door.
We encourage you to attend Kickoff on Monday, April 18 at Green Brook Park in Smithville from 5-5:30 p.m. or Alexandria from 6:30-7 p.m. at Alexandria Park behind the fairgrounds. From April 18 to May 12….EXERCISE! Any type of exercise works! Download the mileage conversion chart from the link above.
