Try a new sport this weekend: partner with the Bowen Island Trail Society

BITS is hosting a âRogaineâ event for runners and families on August 7th.
If you’re looking for an excuse to hit the trails this weekend, Bowen Island Trail Society may have the event for you. BITS is organizing its first traveling event on Saturday morning.
Rogaining, a long-distance orienteering sport, allows teams of two to five people to plan their route and navigate between checkpoints, choosing which checkpoints to visit within the allotted time (in this case three hours) to maximize their score, according to Wikipedia.
BITS is hosting a friendly âRogaineâ event for runners and families on August 7th.
This event can be done in a group of three or four while running or family / friends can walk and find as many checkpoints as possible in the three hour timed event, which takes place at Fairy Fen / Quarry Park / Cape Rodger Curtis and the Disc Golf Course.
Admission is by donation and runners / walkers will be required to sign a waiver.
Meet at Thompson Road for an 8:30 am departure and an 11:30 am finish
This event will be followed by a talk by Mara Letaine, Rogaine World Championship medalist, at Golf at noon.
A new, renewed trail company membership with our brand new hat will also be available at the golf course from noon to 1:30 p.m.
