Three British middle distance champions for Octavian Droobers
Members of the Octavian Droober Orienteering Club have taken part in two events in the Lake District: the 2021 UK Middle Distance Championships, held at Summerhouse Knott, and the 2021 Northern Championships in High Dam near Newby Bridge.
Three Club members achieved the great distinction of becoming a British champion – Max Straube-Roth won the U12 title in 21.29 minutes on the 1.8 km course with 110 meters of vertical drop, Alistair Landels finished 1st in 38 , 13 minutes on the 3.9 km course of the M50 class with 265 meters of climb, Kirsten Strain 1st in the W35 class in 39.07 minutes on the 3.6 km course
In the U21 class, 5th place went to Nathan Lawson in 36.33 minutes, 7th William Gardner in 38.09 minutes and Duncan Birtwistle in 39.22 minutes on the 4.8 km course with 295 meters of vertical drop. The other top ten were Barry Elkington 6th in the M65 class, Peter Carey 5th M75, Trevor Simpson 2nd M80, Anne Straube 4th W45, Liz Phillips 10th W55, Sheila Carey 2nd W75 and Hilary Simpson 3rd W80.
Northern Championships Results: William Gardner finished first in 101.22 minutes on the 14 km M21 Elite course with an impressive 650 meters and Nathan Lawson 7th in 111.21 minutes, Alistair Landels made it twice by winning the M50 Long class in 68.49 minutes on the 8.3 km course with 360 meters of vertical drop, just like Kirsten Strain winning the 6.3 km W35 Long course in 64.49 minutes. Hilary Simpson finished 1st on the W80 course in 93.19 minutes
Top ten: Barry Elkington narrowly missed 2nd place in 66.47 minutes per minute behind the winner of the M65 Long 5.7 km course, Trevor Simpson 3rd on the M80 course, Adam Landels 8th on the M12A 2.9 km course , Anne Straube 6th on the 5.7 km W45 Long Course and Sheila Carey 2nd on the 3.4 km W75 Long Course.
Membership is open to all those who wish to register and discover this adventure sport.
