The AeroPress World Championship is coming to Vancouver this winter
Coffee lovers, get ready for a serious spike in your caffeine intake this winter: a huge coffee contest is happening right here in Vancouver.
The AeroPress World Championship is an annual multiple-elimination tournament that pits the best coffee makers from around the world against each other, all centered around the AeroPress coffee-making technique.
The AeroPress is a plastic French press known for the smooth cup of coffee it produces.
After battling for the championship title in their own country, 60 competitors will converge on Vancouver for a three-day competition, at the end of which an AeroPress World Champion will be named.
Taking place from Thursday, December 1 through Saturday, December 3 at the Pipe Shop Venue in North Vancouver, the competition is an exciting event for competitors and spectators alike, with different aspects of the competition taking place each day.
Those not competing but interested in coffee culture will also be able to enjoy an immersive experience, with coffee workshops, keynote speeches and coffee expert panel discussions taking place on the first day of the event.
During the main competition (which will take place on the second day), contestants will have five minutes to prepare a cup of coffee which will then be presented to a jury. The judges will blind test all the coffees – with three contestants per round – then decide which one they find “the tastiest”.
In each round, the coffee maker with the best cup will move on to the next one, until there is only one left.
During the competition itself, spectators will be able to enjoy coffee brewed by some of the best brewers in the world, as well as snacks at an espresso bar, drinks at a licensed bar and meals at some of the best food trucks in the city. .
Merchandise and limited-edition coffee gear will also be available for sale at the event.
On the third day of the competition, December 3, the AeroPress World Champion will “take over” at select participating cafes across the city, where he will use his winning skills from the day before to brew coffee for cafe patrons.
To cap off the three-day event, an official wrap-up party will invite the champion, along with honored guests, VIPs and a few lucky ticket holders, to partake in an exclusive happy hour with food and drink.
It’s the very first time in the coffee competition’s 14-year history that it’s come to Canada, and this ‘epic coffee party’ is bound to be a fun event for everyone involved.
Ticket prices vary depending on the type of access.
