GREENSBORO, North Carolina – Georgia Tech softball won the No. 7 seed in the 2022 ACC Softball Championship in Pittsburgh, drawing No. 10 seed NC State on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the first round. The winner will advance to face No. 2 seeded Duke in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5 p.m.

The tournament will be hosted by Pitt May 11-14 at Vartabedian Field in Pittsburgh. After the quarter-finals on Thursday, the semi-finals will take place on Friday and the championship will follow on Saturday at 1 p.m. All tournament competition will be broadcast live on ACC Network until the championship, which will be broadcast on ESPN2.

The Jackets (36-15, 11-13 ACC) swept the Wolfpack (33-22, 7-17 ACC) during the regular season, earning a Mercy win in Game 2 and edging NC State 17-2 over the course of the series. At home plate, graduate first baseman Tricia Awald roped in a pair of dingers while the junior catcher Emma Kauf was a near-flawless 7 for 8 with two doubles and a triple. junior pitcher Chandler Denis led the way for the Whites and Ors in the circle, posting a flawless ERA with 13 strikeouts and a .091 batting average against, including a one-hit full game in Game 3.

A season ago, Georgia Tech won Round 1 of the ACC Championship for the second straight time. junior pitcher Blake Neleman headlined the 2021 tournament by throwing a historic no-hitter on the way to a 6-0 win over Syracuse. The Jackets hadn’t won an ACC tournament game since 2012 until 2019.

Tech is 35-33 in its history in the ACC championship since 1990. In addition to four regular season titles, the Yellow Jackets own five ACC tournament titles. Georgia Tech was recently crowned the ACC Tournament champion through the 2012 Tournament. Tech won the ACC Regular Season and Tournament Championship titles back-to-back in 2009-10 as well as 2005. The first The Jackets’ ACC tournament title came in 2002, when they secured their first NCAA region finish in program history. The Yellow Jackets own winning records over six of their eight ACC Tournament opponents over the years at Boston College (3-0), North Carolina (7-3), NC State (2-1), Syracuse (1 -0), Virginia (10-8) and Virginia Tech (3-1).
