“It’s about improving the lives of others, being a part of something bigger than yourself and making a positive difference.” With so much going on in the world, the race for records seems trivial. It’s time for everyone to use their platforms for real change in their communities. This week @maxkingor, @mendozarunner and I came together to take this opportunity to make a lasting impact from this event to create real change in our local community. We want to help fill in the gaps that have formed in our communities, but of course bringing people together from outside communities is difficult to do during a global pandemic. So we thought we should start with our own diverse local communities and bring together the young people who will make a lasting difference by bridging the racial and stereotypical gaps in the central Oregon region. We will be operating with a new sense of purpose today, and we hope you will join us in using our platforms to make a positive difference. Our goal is to host a weekly weekly running camp here in central Oregon. The communities of central Oregon are very diverse but remain relatively separated by socio-economic divisions. Mario, Max and Renee have discovered that one of the best tools to bridge these gaps is running. The sport of running begins to break down all barriers to entry other than a sense of hard work, self-motivation and determination. Anyone can run if they want to. @rechargesport #runforchange

For men, Tyler andrews broke the marathon record of 2:20:45, going through 42.2K in 2:17:56. He continued for another 25 minutes to complete the 50K in 2:42:51. Prior to Saturday, Andrews was also the owner of the men’s treadmill half-marathon record, which he set in 2015. This is the fourth time in 2020 that the men’s 50 km record has been lowered, with the previous record returning to April when the Swiss orienteering champion Matthias kyburz ran a 2:56:35.

50 miles and 100K

Mario mendoza was the first man to break the 50km treadmill record in 2020, which he ran in January, but on Saturday he was not looking to reclaim that title. Instead, he doubled up and ran the 100K, clocking the world’s best time of 6:39:25. The final record of the day came from Regina Lopez in the women’s 50-mile (80K). Lopez crossed the virtual finish line in 8:41:37, ending the evening on a high for the Chaski Challenge, which saw eight records fall in total.
