HIGHLIGHTS

  • Delhi Capitals fly-half Prithvi Shaw continues to recover from typhoid.
  • Shaw has not played for the franchise since May 1.
  • Rishabh Pant is 50-50 on Shaw’s return to DC for the 2022 IPL qualifiers.
Without the talismanic Prithvi Shaw in their batting unit, the Delhi Capitals haven’t looked as efficient as they usually are. After the franchise picked up a victory over the Punjab Kings, thanks to the performance of their bowling unit, questions about Shaw’s possible return for the playoffs once again surfaced.

Delhi’s bowling unit really had to step up their game after the batters were only able to put 159 runs on the board. Rishabh Pan, speaking about the possibilities of getting Shaw back on the team for the playoffs (if the franchise wins qualification), said the odds are 50-50.

“I think he’s 50-50. We’ll find out in a few days,” Rishabh Pant told broadcaster Star Sports.

Shaw has been out of action since the game against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 1. He is said to be battling typhoid at the moment, and there is no clear understanding of his potential return this season.

In fact, Delhi assistant coach Shane Watson had earlier confirmed that Shaw’s season is almost over at the moment.

Mitchell Put in a solid show with the bat, scoring 63 runs before Shardul Thakur (4 for 36), Axar Patel (2 for 12) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 14) rocked the Punjab Kings batting unit to bring Delhi back in the game .

Delhi’s victory in 4th place in the points table. With just one game left, the franchise is on course to qualify for knockouts. However, they must win their last league game of the season.

“Throughout the tournament we’ve lost one and won one game. It’s something we wanted to change as a team and we got it. Livingstone’s change of pace was good, so that makes integral part of the game. I can’t be too hard on Warney (Warner) because he played fantastic throughout the tournament,” Pant said during the post-match presentation.
