Penn State concludes final day of competition at NC State Invitational

Raleigh, North Carolina. – In the past three days, Penn State Women’s Swimming & Diving competed in the NC State Invitational against host NC State, Duke, Stanford, ASU, Army, UNC, UNC-W and James Madison. On the last day of the invitation, Penn State sent 21 athletes to the finals. The team’s performance tonight was highlighted by the seniors Marie schobel and second Stanford Cat in the 200 back and 100 free.

At the end of the event, Penn State scored a total of 856 points and placed sixth overall.

Best swims

Schobel swam the 200 backstroke in 1: 54.41 to place fifth overall. His time is Penn State’s third fastest and a personal best of over half a second.

First-year student Molly carson and second Anna redican also scored for the Nittany Lions on the back finishing 18e (1: 58.63) and 19e (1: 59.61).

Stanford’s time of 49.15 earned him fifth place in the 100 freestyle. It’s also Penn State’s fifth fastest and a personal best.

By placing 18e (50.24) and 19e (50.28), senior Kate sheridan and junior Abbie amdor also scored for the Nittany Lions in the 100 freestyle.

Second year Kylie rydland led Penn State in the 200 breaststroke finishing 20e with a time of 2: 18.20.

Second year Morgan rinn, junior Devon Fork, second year Annie walls and senior Marge Shelly scored for the Nittany Lions by placing 13e (1: 59.68), 20e (2: 03.21), 22sd (2: 05.10) and 24e (2: 07.28).

The best dives

Junior Wei Wei impressed in the platform dive qualifying for the finals and placing sixth overall with a score of 183.50. Senior Sierra Shuts also qualified for the final.

Relais Nittany Lions

Amdor, Stanford, Sheridan and freshman Marly lough swam the 400 freestyle relay in 3: 20.56 for tenth place.

200 flies – Mac Sulivan, Marge Shelly, Devon Fork, Annie walls, Morgan rinn

Final exams and winter vacation training are next for the Nittany Lions. This next semester, Penn State will open the new year against Army West Point on Friday, January 7.
