#togetherwemove encourages the world to get back to racing
/ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – The Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) and Mass Participation World (MPW) have joined forces to launch #togetherwemove in an effort to encourage the world to return to mass participation events after the industry faced big hurdles during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An inspirational video and marketing toolkit has been created to run events around the world to keep runners coming back to their in-person events. It aims to remind runners and supporters of the joy of participating together; overcoming adversity together; and the wonderful achievements and experiences that mass events provide.
An MPW study and other industry research showed that during the peak of COVID-19, participating in outdoor activities was fundamentally safe. Of more than 10 million attendees, only five cases of COVID-19 have been reported as a possible result of connecting with others at these events.
The Race Directors and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Abbott World Marathon Majors support the campaign as they recognize the importance of returning all levels of events to pre-pandemic levels. Not just for event planners, but also for the health and well-being of people around the world, as lockdowns and travel bans have led to a more sedentary lifestyle for many.
Dawna Stone, CEO of AbbottWMM, said: “We are thrilled to see the world back to events and the Majors are back strong this season. However, the industry as a whole is struggling to rebound from the change in behavior caused by the pandemic and we want to do what we can to support and encourage this reversal.
Chris Robb, CEO of MPW, said, “Mass Participation World (MPW) is delighted to partner with the Abbott World Marathon Majors to support the industry with the #togetherwemove digital toolkit during this challenging time. One of our main missions is to facilitate global collaboration. We have no doubt that this initiative will help organizers remind attendees of the joy of participating together, which in turn has the potential to positively impact the health and well-being of millions of people.
The video was produced by UK agency Cravens and voiced by Steve Cram, the former world middle-distance champion and renowned athletics commentator.
