ORIENTATION – Octavian Droobers Juniors excel at West Midlands School Championships
OCTAVIAN Droobers Orienteering Club juniors Andrew Tang and Henry Jeffries won in their respective classes at the West Midlands School Orienteering Championships.
Andrew, who attends Park Hill Junior School in Kenilworth, won Year 5 Boys Class while Henry, who attends Princethorpe College, won Year 9/10 Boys Class of the Year at Sandwell Valley Country Park.
Fellow Droober Richie Mack, representing Kineton High School, came second in the Year 9/10 Boys Class with Rupert Powell (Alcester Grammar School) second in the Year 7/8 Boys Class and Edward Powell, from Berkswell C of E, was also second in the Grade 6 boys class.
And Max Straube-Roth of Bablake and King Henry VIII School came third in the Grade 7 and 8 boys class to complete Droobers’ medal haul.
The event was organized by the Birmingham City Orienteering Club as pupils from schools in Coventry and Warwickshire took part in the championships.
Many youngsters were experiencing the sport for the first time when Balsall Common Primary School won the trophy for best performance in primary school.
Droobers member Jacqui Clark coaches all of the students and the hard work has paid off with many juniors winning medals in both the boys and girls grades 5 and 6 categories.
