LIVE – Australians will battle it out for gold medals in at least seven events on day eight of the Commonwealth Games as the nation aim to hold off England in Birmingham.
Australia head into Friday’s competition at the top of the medal standings with 51 gold – nine more than England – along with 42 silver and 39 bronze.
And it could be so much more at the end of the day with at least three medals up for grabs in athletics, two in diving and one in bowls and artistic gymnastics.

The Australians are also on the hunt for medals in wrestling at women’s 57kg (Irene Symeonidis), men’s 65kg (Mustafa Rezaeifar) and men’s 86kg (Jayden Lawrence), starting in the quarter-finals. from 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, Australia Cedric Dubler headed into the final day of the decathlon sitting second.
Dubler then won the first decathlon of the night, the 110m hurdles, with a time of 14.20 – good enough for a further 949 points. This put him one point ahead of Lindon Victor.
Celeste Mucci ran a strong 100m hurdles, matching her personal best of 12.96, which saw her finish third.
Returning Star Michelle Jenneke was next and comfortably finished second in a time of 12.63 to advance to the final on Sunday night. The time is the fastest she has ever run on the event, although it does not count as an official PB due to high tailwinds.
In the women’s 1500m heats, Caldwell Abbey and Linden Room progressed to the final after finishing in the top four of their heat with times of 4:13.59 and 4:14.08 respectively. Jessica Hull finished fourth in his close race and also advanced with a time of 4:16.13.
Off the track, Australia’s Hockeyroos will have a guaranteed medal chance when they take on India in the semi-finals.
