Lawrence Hahn Golf Classic Winners at Oak Ridge
The 41st Annual Lawrence Hahn Golf Classic was held on Saturday June 26 at the Oak Ridge Country Club.
Thirty-three teams participated in two flights at this year’s annual event, which benefits the Boys & Girls Club in Oak Ridge. The tournament was in a four-man scramble format.
This year’s big winner was one of two teams entered by Century Fire Protection from Atlanta, Georgia, who received the Woody Trophy, named in honor of the late Howard Woody and his sons Johnny and Mickey, who started the tournament in 1982. Johnny and Mickey; Sister Laura Stanish, and Howard’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren continue to participate and contribute to the tournament, according to a press release.
The Century Fire Protection Championship Flight winning team included Keith Newport, Russ Barger, Dick Hull and Bryce Kendrick, who scored 55 (17 under).
Three teams tied for second place with a score of 57. The winner was determined by a scorecard playoff. The team of Jimmy, James and Elliott Normand, and Josh Gambrell edged out last year’s winning team of Shane Howard, Greg Howell, Doug Painter and David Hints. The third team with 57 points included Reid Elwood, Conner Roberts, Tanner Dowland and Trent Mansfield and they were one of two teams entered by Atomic Speed Shop of Oak Ridge. Atomic Speed, Century Fire Protection and Cook’s Comfort Systems were three of the main sponsors of the tournament.
The Open flight was won by the team of Jon, Lucas and Jake Forstrom and Wesley Hutson with a score of 64. The second place team of the Open flight included Mike Stevens, Keys Fillauer, David Stevens and Jonathon Armes.
Cook’s Comfort Systems allowed each participant to win $ 15,000 for a hole-in-one on one of the course’s four par 3 holes. After the tournament, Cook’s also offered the opportunity for four participants to win $ 1 million for a hole-in-one at 165 yards. The contestants were the two players closest to the pin on the par 3 eight-hole course and two players drawn. Cook’s structures these contests so that any cash prizes are split equally between the winning entrant and the Boys & Girls Club. There were no holes in one, the statement said.
The tournament is hosted by the Lawrence Hahn Foundation of the Oak Ridge Country Club.
