DIRECTION: Lesley Ross of Octavian Droobers helps England to victory
Lesley Ross, finished second in the W50 class, adding to the total of 182 points scored by the England squad made up of male and female riders of all ages, from 14 to 60 years old.
The annual Interland match between the Belgian and French teams saw this resounding victory at home.
The two Belgian teams scored 132 points finishing 2nd (FRSO) and 94 points (OV) in 3rd.
The event took place at Burnham Beeches and Egypt Wood in the Chilterns alongside the Ace of Herts competition.
Members of Octavian Droobers took part and the club’s top scorer was Duncan Birtwistle U21 who placed 2nd on the longest course, Black 13km, in 71.41 minutes.
Chris McCartney M50 finished 10th on the 9.4km Short Blue course in 76.12 minutes, Hilary Simpson W80 was 1st on the 2.9km course in 75.13 minutes and Diana Hailey W75 was 6th on the orange course 3 km in 63.28 minutes.
Octavian Droobers welcomes newcomers of all skill levels to try out this fun outdoor adventure sport.
Runners and walkers of all ages from 5 to 85 are invited to participate in the club’s next event on Saturday March 14 at Ryton Pools Country Park, Bubbenhall.
A variety of course lengths ranging from 1.5 km to 5 km around the park have been planned. Families particularly enjoy this activity because it is often likened to a treasure hunt.
One advantage is that it is not necessary to pre-reserve your place, it is sufficient to show up anytime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., instructions will be given and compasses can be borrowed.
In addition, each junior has the opportunity to register before the event to compete for his school in the Octavian Droobers School Orienteering Championships. See website for registration details.
