Chucky Season 2 cuts competition with huge viewership numbers
To say the promo push for season 2 of USA Network and SYFY’s chucky was stacked would be an understatement. When the production wasn’t hitting us with posters and trailers galore, stars like Jennifer Tilly were raising hell with featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage and big announcements. We are happy to report that all the hard work and dedication has paid off as the viewership for the show’s second season is skyrocketing.
Since the first episode landed on both networks on October 5, it has reached 4.6 million views. That number reflects those logging on across all platforms as well as people who needed to watch it once… or multiple times. On opening night, 335,000 viewers tuned in (old fashioned!) to SYFY to see it live, and 320,000 viewed it in the United States. When you do the math, people must have shared their love for the series as a giant number of its watches came after its debut – somewhere in the high 4 million range.
The success of chuckyThe follow-up season isn’t a complete shock as the franchise is over 30 years old. What started as a feature film dynasty has easily turned into a TV hit with news of a renewal arriving in November 2021. Part of the reason we think the production is such a fan favorite is that they keep things classic by bringing back the same actors and characters project after project. Going from big screen to small was Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Alexander Vincent, Christine Eliseand Tilly who all held major roles in the Child’s play film franchise. With the same talent, chuckythe creator, Don Mancini was in on it, continuing with the classic campy horror tone we all know and love.
The second season of chucky resumes with Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson), and Lexi (Alyvia Alyn Lind) being shipped off to a Catholic reformatory school where they soon discover that the killer doll has returned from the dead (again!) and ready for more deadly games and entertainment. As mentioned, Mancini enjoys working with former collaborators, as he has reintroduced Devon Sawa as a priest after being killed twice in the first season. There was also the long-awaited return of Glen/Glenda, the child of Chucky and Tiffany (Tilly), who now appears as two separate teenagers played by lachlan watson.
With their incredible viewership at the start of the second season, we certainly expect the announcement of a Season 3 renewal to be made in the near future. And if Mancini is reading this, we wouldn’t mind chucky centered double trouble, simultaneously bringing things to the big screen.
New episodes of chucky airs on SYFY and USA Network Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. C. Check out the Season 2 trailer below.
