Children’s competition launched to name a play area and green space in West Norwood – Brixton Buzz

Lambeth Council and healthcare investor Fulcrum are running a competition for local children to help nominate a popular green space and play area next to West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre.

The competition kicks off during ‘West Norwood Feast’ this weekend on Sunday 5th June and will run throughout the month with a host of great prizes up for grabs.

West Norwood Health and Leisure Center opened in 2014 and through continued investment the council and Fulcrum have helped create a beloved playground and green spaces around the building which have become popular with residents and families. The space also hosts part of West Norwood’s fabulous party.

Local under-16s now have the opportunity to help name the green space by sending their nominations throughout June to [email protected]

The top ten entries will win a range of prizes, including West Norwood Leisure swimming passes and Picture House local vouchers. First place wins a one-year Family Better Leisure membership package for venues in Lambeth, including Streatham Ice Rink.

In July, the community group ‘Friends of West Norwood Health and Leisure Centre’ will then agree on the top 10 name suggestions which will be put to a public vote to help choose the overall winner, allowing the green space to be officially renamed this summer.

The contest is a great opportunity for local children to use their imaginations and think of a memorable name for the green space that will be used for many years to come.

Naming suggestions could reflect the history of the area, the parts of the Green Zone that children prefer, or the name could honor some of the past and present famous faces of the West Norwood area.

The naming contest can also be an opportunity to recognize some of the “unsung heroes” such as teachers, nurses or community workers who have supported local residents through the challenges of the past few years.

Andrew Rowlands, Managing Director of Fulcrum, said:

“The playgrounds and green spaces around the health and recreation center have become a thriving place for residents and families, so it’s only right that we give local children the chance to help name it.
popular green space.

West Norwood has a rich history and incredible community spirit, so we can’t wait to see some of the name suggestions local kids come up with.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Recreation and Sport, said:

“We are thrilled to launch this contest and start the process of creating a new name for this beloved part of the local community.

With great prizes available and the chance to help name a new piece of West Norwood, we encourage all local children to get involved.

The naming contest is open to all local children ages 16 and under. Applications can be submitted from Sunday 5th June to Thursday 30th June by emailing [email protected]

Please include the child’s name and the name and contact information of a parent or guardian. A maximum of three entries per child is allowed.
