Baruch wins first Commissioner’s Cup since 2015

FLUSHING, NY (May 23, 2022) – For the first time since 2015, Baruch College received the 2021-22 CUNYAC Commissioner’s Cup at the 35th Annual Michael Steuerman Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner at Terrace on The Park.
The Commissioner’s Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic programs in the CUNY Athletic Conference, as determined by a scoring system that rewards a school for success during regular season and championship competition.
Baruch has been atop the standings all year and cemented his lead with a strong spring campaign to win with 145 points. Archivist and two-time defending Commissioners Cup champion Hunter College was second with 116 points, followed by Lehman with 78 points.
Baruch earned all of the points in men’s tennis and baseball, winning the regular season and playoff championships respectively in each sport. The Bearcats earned 15 more points in men’s volleyball, winning their second straight conference title while finishing second in the league in the regular season.
For the year, Baruch won the most CUNYAC Tournament championships in 2021-22, hoisting postseason material seven times, in addition to winning four regular season titles.
Hunter, who entered the spring season with 66 points, posted a strong spring campaign, racking up 53 points across four sports. The Hawks had 20 points in softball, posting an undefeated regular season record (20-0) and winning their first postseason final in the sport since 2008.
Hunter scored 15 points in men’s volleyball, winning the regular season championship while finishing second in the playoffs with a tournament title appearance. The Hawks added another 10 points to their total after winning their second consecutive women’s outdoor track and field championship.
Lehman finished third in the standings with 78 points, scoring 15 points in the spring season. The Lightning won their second straight title in men’s outdoor track and field while finishing second on the women’s side.
John Jay ranked fourth in 2021-22, finishing with 52 points. In the spring, the Bloodhounds were the playoff runners-up in softball, while finishing second in the regular season. John Jay scored three more baseball runs, finishing the regular season ranked third in the standings.
Brooklyn finished one point behind John Jay in the standings with 51 points for fifth place. The Bulldogs had five points during the men’s tennis season, finishing the regular season as the No. 2 seed.
CCNY ranked sixth in the standings for 2021-22, collecting 18 points over four spring sports seasons. The Beavers had 10 baseball runs, reaching the championship final while finishing second overall in the regular season. In track and field, CCNY had a total of 8 points as the men placed second and the women finished third in the championship meet. Also, the Beavers added three points for their third-place finish in the regular season in men’s volleyball.
