Announcing the winners of CSUB’s 10th Annual ROWDY

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – CSU Bakersfield Sports Department announced the winners of the 10th Annual ROWDYs on Tuesday. The rewards honored the best of Roadrunners throughout the 2020-21 season. The ceremony took place virtually.

Here is the list of winners:

golden circle

The Golden Circle is the highest honor bestowed upon a CSUB undergraduate varsity athlete in a leadership role. The award is reserved annually for varsity athletes, sprit teams and group members who have demonstrated integrity and achievement through leadership activities, community engagement, participation in campus life. , sports participation and scholarships while attending CSUB.

Newcomer of the year

Honors the freshman contributions of any male and female freshman, red shirt freshman or transfer varsity athlete who has had an outstanding year while producing results for their respective teams.

AD’s Make A Difference Award

Presented by Athletic Director Dr. Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried, this award honors a male and female college athlete who has made a notable difference on campus and within the athletics department. The recipients are commended for their community service, the support of their teammates and other teams, and their dedication to improving the athletics department for their fellow varsity athletes.

Clutch Performer of the Year

Given to the scholar athlete who has had one or more performances where they can shift into a clutch situation. Each nominated athlete-scholar has shown their ability to perform under pressure and contribute to their group’s success when it matters most.

Rudy Carvajal Award for Community Service

Traditionally awarded to the CSUB team most present in the Bakersfield community during the academic year. With most of the teams unable to meet in person due to the pandemic, CSUB Athletics turned to their team leaders to leave their mark in a different way. This year, the award went to the CSUB Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and all the runners who have helped make CSUB and Bakersfield a better place.

Better individual recovery

Offered to a male and female varsity athlete who has transformed and had an exceptional season. This award is reserved for those who have made a significant impact in competition this season while improving on the previous competition year.

Blue gold award

Awarded to a male and female varsity athlete identified by the CSUB Athletics Administration as both a quality student and a fierce competitor. Their actions in competition and in life epitomize what it means to be a Roadrunner and compete in blue and gold.

Kegley-McCall Award (GPA Team)

Honoring outstanding effort in the classroom, the Kegley-McCall Award is presented to the CSUB team that posted the highest GPA as a team in the 2020-21 school year. With a cumulative GPA of 3.50, this year’s award went to the women’s golf team, made up of Macey Mills, Vanessa Watkins, Brandi borjon, Kaleigh Irey, Allie Crawley, Gillian Galicia, Christy mae saban, and Meredith McDougal.

Heart of a champion award

Presented by the Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas Wallace, this award is intended to honor a male and female varsity athlete who has demonstrated remarkable heart and determination in competition. The award considers the heart before talent, will and desire and playing time, as well as the contributions the heart makes to a specific program.

“ Spirit of the Runner Award

Awarded to the CSUB Spirit Squad member (Cheer, Mascot, Dance, Pep Band) who demonstrates exceptional service to the CSUB spirt program and the CSUB community through participation and leadership.

Better academic performance

Presented to the varsity athlete who meets many of the same criteria required by CoSIDA and the NCAA for All-American academic consideration. Some of these factors include a minimum of 3.30 GPA and having participated in at least 50% of their team’s contests. This award honors the varsity athlete who has contributed the most to their team’s success while excelling in the classroom.

The team member with the highest GPA from each team is appointed to our All-Academic ROWDYs team. Kegley Center staff will determine team members after the fall semester. Note: First year students are not eligible.

Best individual competition

Highlights a unique and remarkable performance by a male and female college athlete over the past year that has left fans cheering and teammates talking. The award criteria include the type of performance (championship or regular season), opponent, results and the importance of victory (conference, non-conference).

Flachmann Prize

Awarded to the male and female varsity athlete who has excelled athletically with strong performances throughout the season, while maintaining his grades and improving his team and program through his performances.

The President’s Award

Awarded annually to the varsity athlete who represents CSU Bakersfield in a positive light, both in competition and in the community. This award is one of the strengths of ROWDYs and showcases the work of a senior university athlete who graduated from CSUB.
